Healing Modalities:

At Wholetherapy,  we work with individuals, couples and families to make difficult and important changes in their lives.

We take a holistic approach to working with our clients. We know each client is unique and we prioritize learning about you as an individual as well as about the context in which your symptoms have arisen.  Through learning about you and your experiences, we will explore the impact adversity and other life events have had had on you and your life. We  strive to create a secure, comfortable space for our work together as we take a gentle approach together on your healing journey.  These first steps often focus on establishing security and stability in your life before beginning on our path to addressing underlying issues that may have lead to experiencing difficulties.

Our work is informed by mindfulness-based practices, tools for resiliency and thriving, as well as current research in the neurobiology of trauma.  We work with Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to help you heal in a healthy way.

At Wholetherapy, we use research-informed interventions to teach you to regulate your nervous system and persevere from adversity. This can help you to feel more at peace and more in control of your life.

Recent Studies in the neurobiology of trauma have shown us that mindfulness skills are the most effective way to stabilize when the effects of traumatic experiences or emotional dysregulation is occurring.

We support you in developing effective strategies that can help you find that place within yourself that feels safe, secure, and stable.  As much as experiencing stress or discomfort is part of the human condition, so is being able to regulate our emotional experience by finding our way back to a state of calm.  Mindfulness skills are invaluable in helping us return to that place within us that is healthy.

At wholetherapy, we recognize your resilience and help you strengthenyour skills to bounce back, and even grow, from adversity.

Trauma doesnt have to decrease your wellbeing. In fact, people are quite capable of returning to their previous level of functioning, or even increasing their overall functioning, after a difficult experience. We will help you discover and refine the skills and tools you already have, as well add additional resiliency tools to your toolkit so that you can return to your old self and even deepen your wisdom. This will help you increase your sense of wellness following a difficult experience.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR as it is commonly referred to is an empirically valid, evidence-based practice that has been shown to be an effective treatment for PTSD & trauma, anxiety, depression, substance abuse, addiction, and many other presenting concerns that bring clients to our practice.

We don’t always use EMDR in our therapy, but we do use bilateral stimulation to help desensitize and reprocess troublesome experiences. What we know from an ever-growing body of research in EMDR, is that when we activate both sides of our body, we also activate both sides of our brain. This stimulation, together with standardized and adapted protocols, can help us to desensitize and reprocess disturbing or upsetting experiences that may be causing us difficulties in our day-to-day life. This process also helps us to reconnect to and access more healthy and adaptive information about ourselves. EMDR can’t change what’s happened, but it can help you change how you respond to what’s happened. It can also help you to let go of unhelpful, negative self-judgements that may be keeping you stuck and help you connect to a more adaptive, healthy view of yourself and your ability to navigate the world.

At Wholetherapy we are trained and have several years experience in using this treatment modality. During our initial visits we assess together if that is the best treatment to help you regain your health and well being.
