Our Story

A practice built around clinical excellence and genuine care

Wholetherapy was founded with a clear purpose. To create a clinical environment where trauma-focused therapy is done carefully and to a consistent clinical standard, and where every person who walks through the door, or logs in from wherever they are in Atlantic Canada, feels genuinely welcomed and supported.

From the start, we've been intentional about who joins our team and how we work together. Our clinicians don't work in isolation. We operate within a consultation-rich environment where complex cases get reviewed regularly, clinical standards are maintained, and every therapist has access to supervision and support.

That structure matters for our clients. It means you're not just getting one person's perspective. You're getting the benefit of a whole clinical team working on your behalf.

What We Stand For

Our values in practice

These aren't statements on a wall. They're the principles that shape how we hire, how we work, and how we show up for every person who trusts us with their care.

Clinical Excellence
We hold ourselves to a high clinical standard. Our clinical leadership includes an EMDR International Association Approved Consultant and an Approved Consultant-in-Training, who provide consultation and supervision to other therapists.
Relational Safety
Healing happens in relationship. The therapeutic relationship, the felt sense of being genuinely safe with another person, isn't a nice-to-have. It's the foundation everything else gets built on.
Ethical Integrity
We do what we say we will do. We're honest about what we can and can't offer. We refer when another clinician or approach would serve a client better. Integrity isn't situational here.
Radical Accessibility
No referral required. Virtual care across Atlantic Canada. Insurance accepted from most major providers. We work to remove every barrier we can between people and the care they need.
Genuine Inclusivity
We serve people of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences. Our practice is affirming, culturally responsive, and committed to creating a space where every person actually feels they belong.
Collaborative Care
We don't believe in silos. Our clinicians consult with each other, with supervisors, and when appropriate, with other health professionals involved in a client's care. You're always at the centre of that collaboration.
Our Specialization

How we treat trauma

Wholetherapy focuses on the assessment and treatment of PTSD, complex and developmental trauma, attachment injury, and the anxiety, depression and dissociation that often accompany them.

Treatment is phased. We begin with assessment, safety and stabilization, then move into trauma processing using the standard eight-phase EMDR protocol, integrated with IFS, DBT, ACT and somatic approaches as clinically indicated. Pacing follows each client’s readiness rather than a fixed timeline.

Clinical oversight is provided by Owner and CEO Emily Bushell, an EMDR International Association Approved Consultant, and Clinical Director Carolyn Hauser, an Approved Consultant-in-Training. Our clinicians are EMDR basic trained or certified, and complex cases are reviewed in regular consultation and supervision.
