Clinical Consultation

A second clinical mind on a difficult case. Targeted, time-limited consultation for therapists in independent practice who want experienced input on specific clinical questions.

What Consultation Is

Experienced input, when you need it

Clinical consultation is distinct from supervision. It's designed for licensed clinicians in independent practice who want experienced clinical input on a specific case, presentation, or question, without the structure of ongoing supervision.

You bring the case. We bring the clinical thinking, the questions, and the experience to help you see it more clearly. The work is collegial and time-limited. You leave with a clearer formulation, a more grounded next step, or both.

When Consultation Helps

Common reasons clinicians reach out

Consultation is most useful when there's a specific clinical question or situation you want to think through with someone outside your own practice.

01
A stuck case. A client you've been working with for some time where progress has slowed and you want a second perspective on the formulation.
02
A complex presentation outside your usual scope. A new client whose history or presentation calls for experience you'd like to draw on before going further.
03
Trauma-specific clinical questions. Questions about pacing, stabilization, EMDR protocol modifications, working with dissociation, or related clinical territory.
04
Ethical or boundary questions. Situations where you want to think through the clinical and ethical considerations with another experienced clinician.
05
Transition or termination considerations. Decisions about when to transfer a client, when to terminate, and how to do either well.
06
Practice-related questions. Questions about scope of practice, professional development, or the clinical implications of a practice decision.
Consultation vs Supervision

Which one fits your situation

Consultation and supervision overlap but serve different purposes. If you're not sure which you need, that's a conversation we're happy to have.

Consultation
For licensed clinicians in independent practice. Focused on specific cases or questions. Typically single sessions or short series. No ongoing accountability for the consultee's practice. Doesn't count toward licensure or certification hours.
Supervision
For clinicians developing their practice or pursuing certification. Ongoing structured relationship. The supervisor takes some clinical responsibility for the supervisee's work. Counts toward licensure hours and EMDRIA pathways.
Why Wholetherapy

Consultation by clinicians actively in the work

Our consultants are practising clinicians with depth in complex trauma, attachment injury, EMDR, and integrative therapy. The input you receive isn't theoretical. It's informed by ongoing clinical work and a culture of consultation we've built into our own practice.

We approach consultation the way we approach therapy: with care, with clinical rigour, and with respect for the seriousness of what you're working with.
