Trauma therapy for veterans and first responders at Wholetherapy
Our Services

Veterans & First Responders

Specialized care for the people who run toward what others run from. Confidential, evidence-based therapy that actually understands the work.

We Get It

You shouldn't have to translate the job to your therapist

A lot of therapists mean well. Fewer actually understand what it's like to have your nervous system stuck in a state of readiness for years. To watch what most people will never see. To carry calls home and not be able to put them down.

Our clinicians who work with veterans, RCMP, military, paramedics, fire, corrections, and other first responders have specific training in occupational trauma, moral injury, and operational stress. Some have lived experience in these communities. All understand that this work doesn't fit into a one-size box.

You won't have to start every session by explaining the culture. We already know.

Who We Work With

Specialized care for service-related trauma

Our team includes clinicians with specific training and experience working with serving and former members of:

Veterans & Military (CAF)
Including operational stress injury (OSI), combat-related trauma, transition to civilian life, and moral injury. We accept VAC coverage and work directly with Veterans Affairs Canada.
RCMP & Police
Including critical incident response, cumulative occupational trauma, and the specific pressures of law enforcement work. Coverage through RCMP Health Services and most municipal force benefits.
Paramedics, Fire & EMS
Including trauma from repeated exposure to critical incidents, sleep disruption, and the long-term toll of shift work. We work with most provincial coverage and benefits plans.
Corrections & Frontline
Including correctional officers, dispatchers, healthcare workers, and other public safety personnel who carry the cumulative weight of high-stakes work.
What It Can Look Like

Operational stress doesn't always show up the way you'd expect

A lot of people don't recognize what they're carrying because it's been with them so long it just feels like who they are now. These are some of the patterns we see most often.

Sleep that's never quite right, or waking up wired
Irritability, short fuse, or numbing out
Hypervigilance even when you're off-shift
A specific call or incident you can't shake
Drinking more than you want to be
Disconnection from family, partners, or yourself
Moral injury — knowing something wasn't right
Wondering if any of this can actually be different
Confidentiality

Your therapy stays private. Period.

We know confidentiality is a real concern in this line of work. People worry about career implications, about clearance, about what gets shared and with whom. Here's the straightforward answer: your therapy is confidential, full stop. We don't share information with employers, with insurers beyond what's required for billing, or with anyone else without your explicit written consent.

If you have specific questions about how confidentiality works in your situation, we'll go through it with you in detail before you commit to anything. No surprises.

Clinician Spotlight

Meet Mitzi Mitchell, MSW

Mitzi Mitchell is our Clinical Specialist for Veterans, serving members, RCMP, and first responders — EMDR trained, with deep experience in operational stress injuries, trauma, and the transition to civilian life. She is the only clinician on our team able to work across every coverage stream we accept — including VAC, CAF, RCMP, NIHB, and most private insurance — so there's no coverage guesswork.

Daytime availability
Mitzi sees clients weekdays between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM — often the easiest window for Veterans, serving members, and shift workers to book.

Common Questions

Questions we get a lot

Do you accept VAC coverage? ↓
Yes. We're registered Veterans Affairs Canada providers and can bill VAC directly. If you have a VAC service number, bring it to your first session and we'll handle the rest.
What about RCMP, military, or first responder coverage? ↓
We work with RCMP Health Services, Canadian Forces benefits, and most major first responder benefits plans. Coverage details depend on your specific plan. Get in touch before your first session and we'll help you figure out what's covered.
Will my employer find out I'm in therapy? ↓
No. Therapy is confidential. We don't share information with employers, supervisors, or anyone else without your explicit written consent. Insurance billing requires basic information be shared with the insurer (your name, dates of service, billing codes), but the content of your sessions stays between you and your therapist.
Can I do therapy virtually? ↓
Yes. We offer secure virtual sessions across Atlantic Canada. For people doing shift work, working remotely, or just preferring to meet from somewhere other than the office, virtual care often makes therapy more sustainable.

You don't have to keep carrying it alone.

Confidential. Specialized. VAC and most major plans accepted. We'll match you with someone who actually gets the work.
