I bring an integrative approach informed by 20+ years across psychology, mental health, and education. My goal is tailored support that meets the unique needs of each individual and family.
I'm a Registered Counselling Therapist (RCT) and a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC). I'm also a School Counsellor with the Halifax Regional Centre for Education and bring over 20 years of experience in education, having served in various roles throughout my career. With a professional background spanning psychology, mental health, and education, I take an integrative approach to therapy, drawing on my experience to provide tailored support for the unique needs of each individual and family.
I began my training with undergraduate degrees in Science (Biology and Psychology) from Saint Mary's University and then Education from the University of New Brunswick. I went on to complete a Master of Education degree in Curriculum Studies (Supporting Learners with Diverse Needs and Exceptionalities) from Mount Saint Vincent University; a Master of Education degree in Leadership & Administration (with a focus on mental health) from St. Francis Xavier University; and a Master of Education degree in Counselling from Acadia University. I'm currently pursuing my Doctorate in Psychology to further deepen and strengthen my clinical work.
Originally from Cape Breton Island, I value authenticity, warmth, and connection, and this shapes how I show up in my work. I hold a deep belief in people's resilience, inherent goodness, and capacity for growth. My approach to therapy is grounded in trust, empathy, and genuine care, with a strong appreciation for self-advocacy, autonomy, and empowerment. I also really enjoy helping clients identify and build on their strengths, passions, and goals.
I aim to create a therapeutic space where clients feel relaxed, grounded, and comfortable to be themselves. It is my hope that during our time together, you feel understood, supported, and gently challenged as you move toward meaningful change. I approach sessions with warmth and steadiness, while also making space for lightheartedness and humour when it feels helpful.
I work with individuals, families, and couples of various ages and I have a special interest in the following areas: women's health and wellness, neurodiversity (including autism, ADHD, and learning disabilities), grief, obsessive compulsive disorder, anxiety, career exploration, work-life balance, life transitions, family systems, school-related concerns, sexual wellness, conflict resolution, boundary setting, and self-advocacy.
I have extensive experience navigating education and mental health systems and am a strong advocate for marginalized and vulnerable populations. I'm particularly passionate about supporting clients impacted by social justice issues, including those who have experienced sexual harm or violence. I also volunteer with Hospice Halifax as a Group Bereavement Facilitator, supporting individuals and families as they navigate loss.
Outside of work, I enjoy travelling, attending concerts, checking out local markets, playing guitar, watching live theatre, catching up with friends over dinner (or tea), going to football games, and summers filled with road trips and beach days. My heart is happiest when spending time with my friends and family, especially with my favourite person on the planet, my much-loved nephew.
I'm currently at patient capacity. Online booking is reserved for my current caseload only.
